This is a song about social media, the culture it has created, and the image of a perfect life it pressures us to portray.
A song about my struggles with insomnia.
A song about being okay with wherever you are in your journey
G.Row (aka Jiro) is a NY-native who lives in Los Angeles. The product of a thousand influences, he grew up in a home where his father listened to jazz and classical, his mother listened to folk, and his brother listened to prog and classic rock, among other things. In his early teen years, his grandmother worked at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC, and helped get him a job there as an extra, sharing the stage with such greats as Pavarotti and Domingo. Even though he didn’t play or write music yet, he was surrounded by it.
When he was about 13, he took an interest in the drums and begged his parents for a drum set. From that first day, he was hooked. Soon after, he joined his school’s concert, marching, and jazz bands, along with various garage bands, playing covers of everything from REM to Rush. He also did several high school musicals, and even played some starring roles. When G.Row wasn’t singing or playing the drums, he was fiddling with his brother’s guitar, and it wasn’t long before he learned some chords and started to write his first songs. He’s been writing and playing ever since.
Now, decades later, G.Row is more passionate about music than ever. Though this hasn’t always been the case, he seeks to write music that’s positive and inspiring - while at the same time speaking up and criticizing corruption, greed, and failed systems. He has eclectic taste in music. Some of his faves are Spoon, Andrew Bird, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Dave Brubeck, The Police, A Tribe Called Quest, INXS, Band of Skulls, Bill Withers and Led Zeppelin.
